Should Motorists Drink At All?

Nurses have actively said that drivers should abstain completely from drinking alcohol before driving, through the vice chairman of the royal college of nursing. Rod Thomson said: ‘Ideally it should be illegal to drink half a pint of beer. People find messages confusing – they think one glass of wine is a unit and that it is OK to drive after two or three. Telling people that they could not drink at all before getting behind the wheel would make the message much clearer.’
England is behind a few countries in the European Union who already have zero tolerance, including Estonia, Malta, Czech Republic and Hungary, all who deem it illegal to drive under the influence.
Studies show that the average mans liver takes in about an hour in total to remove one unit of alcohol from the bloodstream, and it suggests that it is much longer for us females. Alcohol impairs reaction time, as extensive studies have shown, so if you have a couple of glasses of wine with lunch and drive back to the office, you are putting both your lives and others at risk.
The department of transport is considering lowering the legal limit from 80mg per 100ml of blood to 50mg, a move that would make it illegal for you to drive after consuming one pint. It makes sense, as a normal person would not drink a glass of wine and go to work, so why would you consume the same before operating what is essentially heavy machinery. They believe that by lowering the limit they could save up to 65 lives per year that are currently lost due to the recklessness of drunk drivers, and prevent further injury.
It would however, make the Car Insurance industry a lot easier, and save police time, making the alcohol and driving debate very clearly black and white.

Clip 5 of 6 -MOCK ACCIDENT – BLACKWELL, OKLAHOMA
NOT FOR MEDIA USE (BLACKWELL, OK) Blackwell PD, Blackwell FD, Braman FD, OHP, EagleMed and the District Attorney’s office held a mock accident on the football field in Blackwell as the high school students watched it all unfold. Rescue crews were having a tough time getting the students out which is just like what happens in a real life situation. The mock accident resulted in one fatality with one student flown out by EagleMed, and one student taken by ambulance. The drunk driver who caused the accident had no injuries and was taken by Trooper Nick Oliver and her 2 passengers were arrested for public intox by Blackwell PD Officer John Mitchell. Even though it was just a mock accident you gotta watch all 6 clips to see it all unfold from cars being ripped apart with the jaws of life to seeing the fatality victim loaded in a body bag and hauled off by the funeral home who also participated in the event. In the later clips you can also see and hear the students with their makeup on that was realistic and hear their thoughts as well as others thoughts.
